Sunday Morning Special: Montgomery Clift on “What’s My Line,” 1963

Among the many people who crossed the stage on the panel show, What’s My Line?, a bevy of celebrities appeared to promote their latest projects as well as delight audiences who didn’t have as many opportunities to see their favorite stars as we do now.

Montgomery Clift—looking slightly worn-out—appeared on the show in 1963 to promote what would be one of his final films—Freud. The embattled Clift had embarked on a difficult phase of his life. Gripped by addiction and emotional problems left over from his terrible car accident, Clift was having a difficult time coping with both his career and personal life by this point. Nevertheless, he soldiered on, giving audiences a thrill and presenting his usual cool, charming façade.
