Goal for the Day: Seek Shelter

Tornado Damage in my hometown in 1948.

With inclement weather being at the forefront of the news, we find that much of the world has experienced dangerous weather patterns the likes of which we’ve not seen in years. Winds and rain are inconvenient (albeit necessary) and we always need to be prepared for them whether we’re making alternate plans for a major event (such as Friday’s Royal wedding which is making contingency plans in case of rain) or for daily life.

The first order of business is to identify a spot in your home where you can go in case of violent weather. Here, Bertie’s already found a spot in the fireplace in the dining room. But, since we both won’t fit in there, I’ve found another location which will accommodate both of us. Locate a spot in your home which provides structural support and keeps you free from windows and glass which could prove to be dangerous in high winds.

In that spot—be it a closet, bathroom or basement, keep a flashlight and bottled water so that you can be prepared. While most of us will never experience terribly violent weather, it’s always a good idea to be ready in the event that it should happen.
