Object of the Day, Museum Edition: An Antique Child’s Ring, 1550

Ring
Gold, Enamel, Turquoise, 1550
The Victoria & Albert Museum
A few weeks ago, I posted a Victorian child’s ring that I had recently been given by my father and mother. Children’s rings were often given on special occasions and were, ostensibly, miniature versions of the styles worn by adults.

This ring in the Victoria & Albert Museum dates to 1550 and features a raised gold and enamel setting in which a delicate turquoise has been nestled. Turquoise was often used in children’s rings and represented the bond between the child’s mother and father.
