Mastery of Design: Princess Alice's Pearl Pony

This handsome brooch of pearls, gold and a small Burmese ruby was given to Princess Alice of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha as a token of affection from Lord Alfred Hishcoque.  The court of Queen Victoria was abuzz with rumors of an impending marriage between the pretty princess and the moribund Lord.  The token touched Princess Alice, long a pony fancier.  However, she refused his proposal.  He later died after falling into a keg of Royal Icing.  He is in display on Blackpoole.

OR...
NOT.

APRIL FOOLS!

This little piece of costume jewelry came out of my mother's drawer of little baubles she wore as a teen.
